exit through the gift shop Comments Off

Just saw a screening of Banksy’s Exit Through the Gift Shop – in theaters next week – and it was epic. As a film, it was entertaining (Banksy is hilarious), but the directing, the directing comes off as the ultimate play on the art world. Nobody’s done anything particularly new since Duchamp’s Fountain and LHOOQ, just updates on the same joke. But Banksy just did.

After the screening, a few of us were debating whether it should be taken at face value, or if Banksy’s hand played a role in manipulating the upshot, or money shot: the spontaneous debut of MBW. There’s no question in my mind that MBW is all Banksy. And that’s both brilliant and hilarious.

See it.
